Important Pre-Operative Instructions

Before Anesthesia:
Mitchell S. Brookstone, DDS Oral Surgery makes every effort to safeguard the health of our patients during any procedure. For this reason, we have outlined the following guidelines that should be adhered to before general anesthesia or intravenous sedation. Following these guidelines will guarantee an improved experience and complete safety on the day of your procedure.

Safety Guidelines

  • Don't eat or drink anything (including water) for five hours before the appointment (the only exception is medication)
  • Ensure that you come for your appointment with a responsible adult who can stay throughout the procedure to drive you home
  • Under no circumstances should the patient drive or operate machinery for 24 hours following the administration of anesthesia
  • Wear loose-fitting clothes with sleeves that can be rolled past the elbow. Also, make sure to wear low-heeled shoes
  • Don't wear excessive makeup, lipstick, or nail polish on the day of surgery
  • Kindly notify the office, in case you are suffering from an upset stomach, cough, sore throat, or cold
  • If you take routine oral medications or antibiotics before surgery, take them as normal with a little bit of water. If you have concerns about medication, check with your physician before surgery
